I have to paint you the full picture!
Perhaps you were unaware that there are plans to build an art centre in the Victoria Park? It is part of the plan for regeneration of the wharf. The plan is to consume part of the boating pond and build over by the trees behind it.
Personally I think the Park is beautiful as it is.
So is the wharf.
An art centre would be great, but why in the park? There are so many empty buildings in Newbury ideally suited for the purpose.. Use one of them! And I paint- so this is an objective POV.
By Newbury Pond Yacht club using the boating pond, and as many other people as possible , we could prove that it is well used and well loved, and thus save its existence.
BTW, I googled "towns in England with cicular boating ponds" and found results for 3 towns with boating lakes, and Hampstead. If anyone can find resuls and prove that our pond is a common or garden variety and not worth saving then please do.
I have heard a rumour that pedaloes are for rent from the kiosk in summer and must investigate!
